Phi Sigma Pi National Honors Fraternity to host Teach for America 5K

The Beta Epsilon Chapter of Phi Sigma Pi National Honors Fraternity will be having its First Annual Teach For America Fun Run 5K in benefit of its national philanthropy. The race will feature a full 5,000 meter run around campus, starting at the Schine Student Center at 1 p.m. and culminating at the Quad with a festival of games, music, snacks and education-oriented service initiatives.

Teach for America is a non-profit organization, with the mission to eliminate educational inequity by enlisting college graduates and professionals to teach in underprivileged schools in low-income communities. The Beta Epsilon chapter of Phi Sigma Pi has set its fundraising goal for the 5K at $2,000, which will be used to help send materials and expertise to needy classrooms all across our country. Through this goal, Phi Sigma Pi is committing itself to the vision that every child in America deserves an excellent education regardless of his or her background, or the neighborhood that he or she resides in.

Phi Sigma Pi calls all members of Syracuse University to act on this cause by joining us on Sunday, April 27, 1 p.m. at the Schine Student Center. You may register online at www.syracusepsp.com for $10. Moreover, you will have the opportunity compete for prizes, interact with representatives from Teach for America and enjoy a healthy day of fun by not only doing what’s right, but by also raising awareness for educational inequity in our nation.

For more information, please contact Elizabeth Reynolds at elreynol@syr.edu. We hope you can join us for this meaningful event.
