Cuneo: My summer internship is better than yours

It’s my first blog entry, and I’m super excited to start. America’s greatest minds — Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Ashlee Simpson — all probably had blogs before they became rich and famous. And what better to blog about than my new internship!

I don’t want to brag, but it’s probably been the best three weeks of my life.

I wouldn’t say I necessarily have a specific role — they pretty much put me everywhere. I’m like Batman’s utility belt, except I work for people with more money. I’m having such a terrific time; I can’t believe they only let me stay until 4.

The day starts with the classic Starbucks run. I’ve got the orders down pat: Tom needs a vanilla bean frap with extra whip, Tina has a black coffee with three Splenda, Jacob needs his caramel macchiato no whip and skim milk. I don’t get Jacob though, why splurge the $6.50 on the macchiato and take all the fun out of it?

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning I make sure to Instagram the same logo in a different spot at work. What’s the point of working somewhere if no one knows where you are? I just think I work too hard not to deserve a little self-indulgence. Either the logo shot or a shot of me looking away from the camera pretending that I’m doing something important. But really I’m just wondering what would be the best time to post, because under 50 likes would be soul-crushing.

I wouldn’t say I live in the city; it’s basically become a part of me. Like, you know how life would go on, but it’d be a lot harder without a hand? That’s how I feel about New York. It just has everything. Bars that I can get into if I slip the bouncer a cool George Washington, adorable coffee shops, places that serve avocado toast — the most Instagram-able food that exists. Even the things that used to bother me about this city aren’t so bad anymore. Now I only let the shady looking guy on 40th try to take my wallet for six seconds before calling for help.

It’s amazing how much me and the other interns click. We’re basically a family. I’m going to miss them so much when I go back to school. I know we’ll keep in touch; work families stick together. Plus, all my friends at school suck anyways; they’re so unorganized and immature. These people get me. Like this one inside joke Tobin and I have. We both look at each other for a second and immediately begin typing, pretending to be hard at work. Tobin’s a riot!

I guess if I had to pick one aspect of work I love the most it’s probably the perks. I mean, where else can you get backstage passes to a Jesse McCartney concert. You probably don’t even remember who he is, but he’ll always have my beautiful soul. And then, of course, there’s that time I was in line at Cosí and Usher accidentally grazed my arm. It was an unreal experience, the type of things that you just don’t get in shantytowns like New Jersey, or god forbid Pennsylvania.

I guess it’s time for me to wrap this up. Writing a blog can be tiring, but there’s no other way to communicate how I feel to everyone I know. Blogging is the new jogging, is what I’m going to start saying. It’s so freeing to just open up your MacBook and just share everything regardless of if people are interested in what’s happening or not. But like dad said, you can’t let the haters bury you; you have to bury them, preferably in a ditch.

Back to work! Gosh, I didn’t know you could fall in love with Microsoft Excel, but spreadsheets just get me.
