The news of at least one SU men's lacrosse player having mumps comes six days after the Office of Health Services confirmed two cases of mumps on campus.

Syracuse men’s lacrosse team won’t participate in the Deyhontsigwa’ehs The Creator’s Game, Lacrosse Weekend this weekend, citing “an abundance of caution” as at least one player has been diagnosed with mumps, SU Athletics announced on Wednesday night.

“We’ve reached the hard decision to withdraw our team’s participation in the lacrosse event this weekend,” Director of Athletics John Wildhack said in a press release. “We are disappointed our student-athletes won’t be able to participate in Sunday’s games.”

On Thursday, Sept. 21, in a university-wide email, the Office of Health Services confirmed two cases of mumps in the student body.

SU has been working with New York state and Onondaga County Health Department officials since the original confirmation of mumps on campus, according the the release.
